Syndicate is a strategy game for Sega Genesis that adapts the computer original for console capabilities. While following the same gameplay template, it features a more cartoonish style, different gameplay mechanics, controls, and new levels.
As an executive of a criminal syndicate in a dark cyberpunk future, you control teams of cyborg agents on missions to assassinate politicians, retrieve important objects, kidnap scientists, or take out enemy agents. The world map consists of 50 regions, each with one level (two training levels are also available). Stages are presented in isometric view, and one to four agents are controlled directly, with potential targets selected automatically.
Between missions, taxes from conquered territories can be spent on researching new weapons and cybernetic upgrades for the agents. These include upgrades similar to those in the computer versions, such as a "chiller" instead of the flame thrower. Indirect control of agents using drugs also remains the same, with no police or guards present.
