The Midnight Club Street Racing Game Boy Advance adaptation takes the core gameplay concept from the PS2 version and simplifies it for a 2D overhead view. The player assumes the role of a taxi driver, navigating the streets of New York City and later London, with the ultimate goal of becoming a top-notch street racer.
The game's Career Mode is centered around challenging other racers, winning their cars in the process. With 42 unique vehicles to collect, each with its own strengths and weaknesses, players must strategize to unlock them all. Car customization options are limited, but finding ways to acquire new cars is often a puzzle to solve. Two types of racing modes are available: waypoint races, where following a "hook man" around the city yields a series of checkpoints to hit, and head-to-head races, triggered by phone calls from opponents.
Players can save their progress through passwords earned after winning races, allowing them to resume their Career Mode playthrough later. Arcade mode provides an opportunity to replay unlocked content, while Joyride mode offers a free-form experience in which players can explore the cities with adjustable traffic levels.
