Hi-Octane , a futuristic racing game with hover cars, is set in the same line as Wipeout series, using a modified version of the Magic Carpet 2 engine.
The story follows players as they compete against each other in hover car racing. The goal is to be the first to cross the finish line while navigating through the track, collecting power-ups and avoiding obstacles. Each track has its unique challenges and shortcuts that offer additional rewards.
Hi-Octane 's gameplay takes a straightforward approach, with players using the directional keys to control steering and throttle, and three additional keys to fire the minigun, missiles, or charge the booster. While the minigun has unlimited ammo, fuel, armor, and missiles must be replenished by passing through marked areas or picking up power-ups in the track or from destroyed opponents.
The game features 9 tracks and several game modes, including single race mode, Championship mode, Split Screen, Clone Race, Death Match, and Hot Seat. Players can choose from six hover cars, each with its unique characteristics and upgradeable capacities. The game also includes eight teams to choose from, which change the color of the vehicle.
